The 14th Thai – Australia SPS Expert Group Meeting, Melbourne, Victoria

4 – 5 September 2018, Office of Agricultural Affairs (OAA) attended the 14th Thai – Australia Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Expert Group Meeting at Rendezvous Hotel, Melbourne, Victoria. The meeting objectives were to discuss market access for agriculture and food products under the obligations of Thailand- Australia Free Trade Agreement or TAFTA). A joint announcement was made during the meeting on a new irradiation pathway for horticultural exports. Thai mangoes gained market access to Australian while Queensland persimmons are permitted for export to Thailand. Dr. Surmsuk Salakpetch, Secretary General of National Bureau of Agricultural Commodities and Food Standards (ACFS) was the Head of Thai Delegation while Mrs. Louis van Meaurs, First Assistant Secretary, Trade and Market Access Division was the Head of Australian Delegation. As the host country for the meeting, Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (DAWR) organized a study visit for Thai participants from ACFS, Department of Livestock Development, Department of Agriculture and OAA to various sites which were cheese manufacturer (That’s Amore Cheese), Vineyard in Yarra Valley and Wandin Valley Farms and packing house close to Melbourne.
